Mea Lee has done pretty good job so far, i like it.

I take this is the only site she acts on?

I hope these will help, the backgrounds are pretty horrible looks like some 10 years old stuff, I'm not sure what 3D programm or textures you use for rendering, but i'd recommend changing them.

Well anyway, hope these will help. Most of the pictures were peoples choice.

I think all you need is one really well done picture set and the news of the site will spread like wildfire, might be worth mentioning it on gaming or cosplay sites.

I will update the thread, if i find something interesting.

I'm not sure how do you mean "backgrounds are horrible", but I think their backgrounds are even bigger resolution/bigger textures than you can find in any game on the market atm

I really doubt these background looks like "something from 10yrs ago"








if you look at the texture resolution (especially on the Gogo pic), you would notice: even the most modern games using lowest res textures.

From the rendereing side: I guess it's possible to render 10times better background images, sure... for one or two pic. But keep in mind: these girls/guys are making approx 50backgrounds/series/week, not only one picture (like the ones, you linked: those are 1-2 images, not 40-50)

Also, it's easy to make a nice background for Miranda, if you can copy/paste the background from the game/official artwork, +a bit Photoshop work, and voila! You have **ONE** beautiful pic - one thing CosplayErotica can not do, as those are copryighted backgrounds of Bioware.
(I guess the same thing why CosplayErotica's costumes are not "proper" cosplays, there are always sight/major differrences)

I would like to see more "outdoor" renders btw, too much "indoor" setting imho.

as a graphic-[Censored] myself, I must add: CE pics using depth map shadows, if they would render raytraced pix, it would be more awesome regarding to the background pics. Unfortunately raytracing takes very long time, I guess that's why they don't do it

Yeah, it's kinda "her site" as I know (together with Angela)

nice artworks btw! But those are not photographs, it's called fan art and has nothing to do with costume-play, also making of a fan art image (1 image!) usually takes weeks to make:) - pics from games, +rendered girl's heads faked into some random body, we are talking about two very different thing here

I didnt mean that all of the backgrounds were bad. However some of them look pretty dull to be honest.

a) high resolution is making them look pixelated.

b) no bump/vertex/parallax mapping on textures.

c) poor shadow renders.

I know games mostly use 512/1024 textures, however as most of the content is pictures and the background is not animated, it would be very easy to edit them with photoshop.

I didnt mean to compare the fanart on the site backgrounds, i'm sorry if i gave the wrong impression.

If the girls and costumes are great. I dont see reason for the backgrounds to be sloppy, it may take time but its worth it. I could propably do the same within hour using 3Dmax, if i had the concept art that is.

I know you cant use the game backgrounds for copyright reasons, but it would be nice to see the background design, being related to the game and character.

I think there is bump mapping: if you look close the pics posted above, look the Gogo one (girl with black boots), and look at the concrete behind her, or the wood-crates: that's a bump map, as I can see. However I am a graphic-manaic, but my eyes ar old, so I can be mistaken:)

Another question: you can do the same in a hour, including actually making the scenes/props, texturing them, then rendering it in about 35-40 pespective/camera angle (probably with some special software/plugin to align the real camera+the virtual camera)? With all my respect: i doubt you can:)

However I didn't used the good'ole 3Dsmax from years, so maybe it's possible in these days.

Actually I would like to hear the opinion of some cosplayerotica officials lol, interesting subject indeed

more ontopic: I did cut out parts from original 1500/1000px images, without resizing. Maybe it's just me, but I just can't see pixels, or "pixelated" looks here? (confused)

Heres what i mean. Again, not all of them are this bad. But there are some. Love the girl and costume.

a) texture stretching

b) no bumpmapping

c) poor shadows

d) texture is not seamless, very obvious on the wall corner

e) obvious sawtooth on mine cart handle and other places

f) so boring location, dull cave with so hot lady

I didnt count compile time of the scene, but otherwise its possible. As you dont need 40 different backgrounds, only one good scene and then you change the camera angles and placing for pictures.

Might be fun to try doing my own scene. To show what it could possibly look like, when taken the time to do it.

However these are just my opinion and suggestions, would be nice to hear the corresponding artists comment on hes work. Or hire another one, if hes busy doing every scene alone.

I would have used something like the mansion for scene reference, more interesting and fitting location. Mansion

ps. If i make scene, i want it to be something special for Mea Lee ;)

lemme join!

1. About the quality: maybe I am the only one who realised this, but if you check out the 2009 series, and the latest ones, you can see a nice quality increase in texture resolutions, etc.
The Ada Wong is the worst possible example here, I agree, but that is a serie from 2009, goood ole' times:)

2. I'm afraid I must argue here:-) there are bumpmaps, at least on the latest series (i did attached a pic)

3. The "mansion" idea: its great! Great location, nice image! But... where will you get the mansion for your renders? I mean: you can't just "download one" and use it; you can do it with a fan-art, but not with a commercial product. So either you need to

A) make your own mansion in Lightwave/zmodel/whatever = takes ages
B) buy a mansion prop (if there is any in this quality) with the proper EULA so you can use it in commercial product.

4. Texture stretching: yeh, I'v seen it here'n'there, agreed, hate them. Fortunately there are less- and less lately.

5. poor shadows - dunno, I think these shadows are okay-ish for a depth-map render. Also most of the images in the site using a lot of direct lighting (hey! we need it to see the girls, and the uhmm... "details" of the girls haha) - scenes with dramatic lighthing are good for art, but not good with naked models = dramatic lights, you won't see **** from the girl:) For myself I prefer a lot of light (fashion-photo style), so I can see the bodies of the models:-)

I guess I am far more easier to please. Though with the pointing out of the background imaging, does show some errors... That being said, I could barley even notice the red circled errors in comparison to Angela's sweet tail feathers :love:

Yes the new ones are much better than the old ones. Still imo, the backgrounds could be more related to the game its representing.

Hardest part is prolly mimicing the texture work.

Just seen this interesting topic:)

We did change our rendering engine at the end of 2010, (that's why there is a significant render quality change between the 2009, and late 2010 series) also just upgraded it again this month, (so even more ray-tracing, refraction/displacement and every kind of eye-candy coming soon in the future series). So I think this subject is kinda obsolote however thanks for the ideas/suggestion, we are always willing to learn and improve, even if this is "just" the backgrounds.

Although we need to "balance" between quality and production time, I'm sure we will (to be exact: our gfx-guys will ) improve our rendering engine even more and more in the future, for Your viewing pleasure.

the rendering of the photos is ok for now,i don't think we need a massive hq/hires version,but anyway i've seen some aliasing on the commented photos..
